The Postgraduate Program in Animal Health and Production consists of two lines of research: Animal Health and Unique Health and Animal Production, with an emphasis on different animal species, considering the promotion of unique health and conducting advanced research with an impact on the agricultural sector. Be part of the advances in animal health and production!
We had the participation of Jéssica Hortencia Morinigo Cañiza, who came from Paraguay to do her master's degree at the PPGSPA. The student carried out the research "The somatic cell count and its effect on the chemical parameters of milk and reproductive performance of dairy cows, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. José Francisco Manta Bragança. Jéssica defended her dissertation in April 2022.
On November 19, 2022, the event "I Workshop on International Research in Animal Health and Production" took place, promoted by the Graduate Program in Animal Health and Production (PPGSPA) at Unoesc Xanxerê, bringing together students from the master's and undergraduate courses in Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics and professionals in the field.
Based on joint discussions with the collegiate body, a workshop was conceived in which there would be the possibility of going further, in fact internationalizing knowledge by receiving international researchers in the areas of animal health and production, with Brazilian speakers being invited who are currently at universities of companies in the United States and Canada. The topics covered included "Animal health diagnostics in the United States", "Research into the effect of heat stress and rumination time on dairy cattle" and "Current developments in poultry research".
On November 17, 2023, the event "II Workshop on International Research in Animal Health and Production" took place, promoted by the Postgraduate Program in Animal Health and Production (PPGSPA) at Unoesc Xanxerê, bringing together students from the master's degree and undergraduate courses in Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics, as well as professionals in the field. The event featured speakers who are currently at universities in Uruguay and the United States and who are carrying out research in the areas mentioned above.
Researcher Prof. Dr. Maria de Lourdes Adrien Delgado, from the Universidad de la Republica (UDELAR - Uruguay), gave the lecture "Research into the metabolism of dairy cows with different feeding strategies" and researcher Prof. Dr. Fabio Augusto Vannucci, from the University of Minnesota (USA), addressed the topic "The role of the veterinary pathologist in the diagnosis of diseases in the United States". In addition to explaining research results, the speakers emphasized the importance of implementing diagnostic methods in animal health and production and highlighted the importance of effective practices to ensure health and performance in production systems in the face of increasing productivity and the corresponding health challenges, requiring agile and qualified decisions to minimize impacts on production.
